Homemade Deodorant
Ingredients
Coconut oil – 1/2 cup
Cornstarch– 1/2 cup
Shea butter – 2 tbsp.
Beeswax – 3 tbsp.
Baking soda– 1 tbsp.
Essential oil (your choice) – 10 to 15 drops
Directions:
- Grate the beeswax and place it in a boiler.
- Add the Shea butter and coconut oil to it.
- Allow all the three ingredients to melt and mix well completely.
- Now, remove from heat and add baking soda and cornstarch to it.
- Mix well thoroughly.
- For aroma, add few drops of your desired essential oil. If preferred, you can also blend two or three essential oils of your choice. To know the list of essential oils for skin care, check out our post here.
- Now the completed deodorant mixture would be in liquid form. Take an old stick deodorant container and pour this mixture into it while it is in fluid form.
- If you do not have a stick deodorant container, you can use a mold or any hand-hold size small soap bowl for this purpose.
Your natural homemade deodorant is ready to use after it gets hardened. You can use it as usual by rubbing on your armpits.
Since coconut oil has antibacterial properties, it helps ward off odor-causing bacteria. It is also an effective moisturizer and deodorizer, as some people use plain coconut oil for natural odor killing skin oil. Each and every other ingredient in the homemade deodorant serves its purpose. Baking soda absorbs bad odors and neutralizes your skin pH. Shea butter is a great moisturizer whole cornstarch help absorb excess skin sweat. Beeswax, apart from helping with perspiration problem, helps keep the homemade deodorant in solid form, preventing its melting.

- While using essential oils, make sure you have no allergic reaction to it. Always trail-test it before using.
- This homemade deodorant can stain the clothes, when wet, so wait until it dries in your body. It might not take a long time, but just 3-4 minutes.
- For sensitive skin people, reduce the baking soda in the recipe.
- Cocoa butter is an optional ingredient and can be used to get a colored and more flavored homemade deodorant.
