There comes a question to mind, how could oil clear out my oily skin. But keep in mind that, chemically, oil can dissolve oil. The natural secretion of oil and sebum in our skin can be dissolved with carrier oils. It is a fact that sebum in our skin is the cause for acne, blackheads, whiteheads, zits, etc. but these are not the result of oil in general. They are caused by the reaction of our skin oil and sebum with hormones, bacteria, and dead skin cells. Oil is not always the malicious force to beautiful skin.
How to do Skin Oil Cleansing
This is a simple and effective process. All you need is natural organic oil. The method includes basic three steps
- Apply the oil all over your face
- Massage it slowly all over the skin
- Removing the oil with Steam or wipe off with hot wash cloth
This Oil Cleansing method will effectively make your skin clear of all impurities and chemical compounds. If you feel dryness, you can pat some oil very lightly over the damp skin, to lock in the skin moisture. Do not go overload with oil, or your skin’s dewy finish would turn out to be oily.
How does this work?
The basic concept behind Skin Oil Cleansing is that massage your skin will help oil dissolve with the impurities and steaming will open up the pores. Once the pores are opened, the oil can be easily removed. By this ways, all the impurities struck up in your pores can be lifted up and cleansed.
Which oil to use?
Basically, you will need to do Skin Oil Cleansing with two oils – the astringent oil like Castor Oil and any carrier oil like Coconut Oil or Sunflower seed oil. Castor oil is the best choice as it potent anti-inflammatory, healing and cleansing properties. This would be the best astringent oil to use. A little of castor oil can do wonders, especially with dry skin. In case of not getting castor oil, you can go for hazelnut oil, which would be an alternative for ‘astringent’ oil. The composition of blending astringent oil with carrier oil depends on your skin type and needs.
Since castor oil is too thick to get diluted, we will need yet another carrier oil to get the method go smoothly. In that case, coconut oil can be the secondary oil. You can also use Sunflower seed oil but since the purest form of it is hard to get, coconut oil can be a better option. Alternatively, you can also use extra virgin olive oil or jojoba oil for normal skins; sweet almond oil, grapeseed oil for oily skin; and Avocado oil, Apricot Kernel oils for dry skins. It is essential to choose organic, natural, cold-pressed oils from vegetable, seed, or nuts, which are rich in vitamins, nutrients, and fatty acids.
Here are some suggestions for using the right blend of oils for your skin type.
- For Oily Skin: You can try around 30% of astringent oil with 70% of carrier oil.
- For Normal Skin: you can blend around 20% of astringent oil with 80% carrier oil.
- For Dry Skin: you can blend 10% of astringent oil with 90% carrier oil.
Directions to use:
Take a teaspoon of the oil mixture.
Rub it on the palm of your hands back and forth to warm up the oil.
Now apply it on your face and massage with gentle circular strokes for 1-2 minutes.
Take a washcloth and put it under steam. You can also dip in it hot water and wring out the excess water.
Place this washcloth on the face for few seconds and slowly wipe it off. You have to do it gently. Repeat it if you feel the oil present at certain places.
You get a clean and clear skin.
