Constipation Home Remedies
Constipation turns out to be a discomfort for many. That too, as you get aged, the problem intensifies further. Earlier, we had a post about the causes of constipation. Usually, constipation includes symptoms like infrequent bowel movement, hard stools, and incomplete bowel sensation. It will also be accompanied with abdominal discomfort, bloating, and occasional distension. If left untreated, it can create psychological distress, anal bleeding, and fissures. Treating constipation has to be a major concern. Just changing your food intake and lifestyle can make a huge difference to constipation problem. Here we have few home remedies for constipation that can benefit well and good for people.
Dietary Fiber
Fiber has to be one of the essential compounds in our food to alleviate constipation. During the digestion, fiber binds with water, adding bulkiness to the stool and softens it for easy bowel management. It is better to intake insoluble fiber.
- The best way to add dietary fiber is to intake more fruits and vegetables. There are so many high-fiber fruits and vegetables such as broccoli, peas, beans, okra, turnip, spinach, papaya, berries, banana, apple, prunes, peaches, etc.,.
- You can also intake nuts and seeds for getting the fiber punch. Almonds, flaxseeds, and walnuts make delicious fiber foods.
- Wholesome whole grains are also good at fiber and protein content. You can take dry oats, quinoa, barley, wheat, brown rice, and millets.
Water
Drinking lots of water helps to relieve constipation. Having a glass of warm water in the morning empty stomach does wonders. You can also add some lemon to warm water. You can also add honey to it. Drink Jeera water to aid in digestion and combat constipation.
Aloe Vera Juice
Aloe Vera is a medicinal herb and this aloe Vera juice does wonders for combating constipation. It has to be consumed in minimum quantities regularly.
Herbs
Natural herbs can benefit constipation treatment. Just boil some Mint leaves and Tulsi leaves in hot water. Consume it to get quick relief from constipation.
Fish Oil
Fish oil contains omega-3 fatty acid that helps digestion. Fish oil supplements can be effective in treating constipation. However, the downside of using fish oil is stomach bloating and gas.
Castor Oil
Castor oil is a natural laxative and can be used in minimum quantities to ease bowel function. Taking castor oil orally can help in treating chronic constipation. Be cautious while taking castor oil as it should not be taken in large quantities.
Probiotics
Probiotics are intestinal good bacteria that aids in digestion. Yogurt has good amount of probiotics and is effective for curing constipation. Probiotics can also be taken in a supplement form.
Physical Exercise
Having a healthy active lifestyle helps in getting rid of constipation. Do mild exercises or yoga to improve your body functioning. This way you can practice your bowel management effectively.
Other Home Remedies
Soak some dates in hot milk and make it into a paste. This helps in relieving constipation.
Add a teaspoon of fresh ghee with hot milk. Drink this before going to bed.
Drink orange juices daily. It has vitamin C and fiber in it.
Add flax seeds to your breakfast. You can also add flax to warm water and drink it in morning empty stomach.
Mix and grind equal amounts of sesame seeds and sunflower seeds. Take one tablespoon of this powder and drink it daily for one week.
Raw cabbage juice or spinach juice is effective to relieve constipation.
