Usually we are prescribed to have ORS or oral rehydration solutions as a part of the routine. These ORS drinks are necessary for the body to tackle the electrolyte imbalance caused by various reasons. Commonly, diarrhea and other gastro problems cause fluid retention in the body. Having an electrolyte drink or ORS helps a lot to retain the body’s need for water and salt. Among the commercial electrolyte drinks, there are possibility of artificial sweeteners and preservatives added. So, a healthy homemade energy drink could be a good alternative. It is fresh, tasty and healthy as well. So, try out this homemade electrolyte energy drink.

Before that, know what is an electrolyte drink actually. It is a combination of dry salts mixed with safe water. This solution helps replace the fluids loss in the body. An instant ORS solution includes a mixture of sugar and salt to give the body the necessary energy. The ions in the salts are the electrolytes. Some of the electrolytes in our body are potassium, sodium, calcium, phosphate, magnesium, sulfate, chloride, and bicarbonate. These electrolytes in the body are essential for regulating the nerves and muscles functioning in the body. Loss of electrolytes in the body can lead to fatigue, weakness and severe illness. You need an electrolyte drink to tackle the body’s need!

Lemon and Ginger drink

Ingredients

Ginger slice – 3 to 5

Raw honey – 1 to 2 tbsp

Lemon juice – 1 tbsp

Water – 1 cup

Sea salt – ¼ tsp

Direction to use
  • Take one cup of water in a pan and heat it.
  • Now add freshly sliced ginger pieces into it the boiling water and allow it to boil for about 5 minutes.
  • Strain the water from it and then add freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  • Now add some unrefined salt and add some organic honey into it.
  • Mix well until it dissolves completely. This will give you the sweat, sour and salty flavors well.
  • Your energy drink is ready to drink, you can start your day by drinking this energy drink after your workout session.

Lemon and Orange Drink

Ingredients

Lemon juice – ¼ cup

Orange juice – ½ cup

Honey – 4 tbsp

Sea salt – ¼ tsp

Direction to use
  • Take one half cup of freshly squeezed orange juice in a jar.
  • Now add fresh lemon juice into it and mix well so that it will blend in the sweet and sour flavors.
  • Add some organic honey and water into it then mix them well
  • Now add little unrefined salt to it and then whisk it well to completely dissolve the salt and honey.
  • You can drink this refreshing drink during and after your workout sessions or you can drink whenever you want a boost of energy and mood.
Instant ORS
When you have nothing at home for vegetable and fruit based electrolyte drink, you can make a simple instance ORS drink. Mix 6 teaspoons of sugar with 1/2 teaspoon of salt to 1 litre of water. This is an instant ORS that can be consumed by anyone, even small children. NO harm with this instant ORS. However, make sure to mix in the correct mentioned amounts. Too much sugar can worsen diarrhoea problems while too much salt would harm little children. However, making a too much diluted ORS is not harmful after all.
