Home Remedies for Food Poisoning

Food poisoning is one of the common problems experienced by one and all, irrespective of age. Usually, it happens after eating junk food or street/hotel foods. Food poisoning is the result of unhygienic food contaminated in our body through pathogens or other toxins. It is accompanied with common symptoms such as like vomiting, abdominal pain/cramps, nausea, diarrhea, fatigue, excessive headache and sweating, or sometimes even fever. In that time, we often rush to hospitals. But how many of us know we can do some home remedies for food poisoning, before getting physician assistance.

Lemon

Lemon is enriched with anti-inflammatory properties along with antibacterial and antiviral properties. It helps the best when it comes to food poisoning. Drinking lime juice with salt relieves the initial symptoms of food poisoning.

Take lime juice with salt or sugar in warm water for two or three times a day. This will ease the symptoms of food poisoning. It will also help detoxify the body.

Ginger

Similar to lemon, ginger is also one of the anti-inflammation and pain-reliving herbs. It helps to combat any infection in the body.

Ginger can be taken as a plain juice extract or even mixed with lime water. This has to be taken twice or thrice a day.

Cumin seeds

Cumin seeds help in relieving gastric problem, combating intestinal infections, and improve digestive fire. It also helps reduce inflammation of gut and fights body heat or so-called Pitha in Ayurveda.

You can use cumin seeds in hot soups during food poisoning. Also, you can add these cumin seeds to boiling water and drink it the whole day. This will help in recovering from food poisoning faster.

Basil leaves

Take one teaspoon of basil/tulsi leaves and extract the juice. It has to be taken three to four times a day.

Alternatively, you can also add five to six basil leaves to boiled water and strain it after ten minutes. Consume this basil water five or six times a day.

Fenugreek seeds

Similar to basil leaves, fenugreek seeds also has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties. This helps to be a good remedy for diarrhea, cramps, and intestinal infections.

Take half a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds and powder it after dry frying. Mix this powder with buttermilk and consume it.

  • During Food Poisoning, be sure to drink plenty of water so that your body flushes out the toxins easily.
  • Also, avoid flavored drinks and beverages or soda.
  • Do not consume solid foods and milk products as it can affect the digestive system.
  • Take enough rest and sleep well to help your body with quick recovery.

The mentioned remedies are effective in food poisoning to a moderate extent. But however, if the problem persists and becomes unmanageable, visit a doctor immediately.
