Winter Skin Care with Easy Ingredients

Winter can cause your skin to go dry. The chill wind, low humidity, and low temperature can bring havoc on body skin and lips. It takes proper skin care routine to combat these winter weather effect on skin. This does not mean you have to go hunting for cosmetic products specially prepared for winter skin care. Instead, you can turn around to your own kitchen ingredients. There are many simple ways in which you can follow winter skin care using easy available ingredients.

Grapefruit

Grapefruit is rich in vitamin C, which is an antioxidant. It helps protect your skin from free radical damage. It also contains a compound called lycopene, which helps to keep the skin smooth. Moreover, the amino acids present in grapefruit makes your body skin firm and soft. The phytochemical compound, naringin, present in grapefruit helps deliver healthier skin by removing the body toxins in the liver.

You can drink fresh grapefruit juice regularly during the winter season.

For topical application, you can apply a grapefruit face mask once a week. This grapefruit face mask provides a natural radiance and smooth texture to the skin.

Grapefruit juice – ½ cup

Honey – 1 tbsp.

Powdered oatmeal – ½ cup

Mix all the ingredients together and apply it all over the face. Wash it off with lukewarm water once it dries.

Avocado

Avocado is an excellent way to hydrate your skin and hair. It contains good source of vitamins A, E and C. it also contains monounsaturated fats that help to lock in the skin moisture. Also, avocado contains folic acid, potassium, and magnesium, which are essential nutrients for healthy skin.

Apart from eating avocados, you can use it for a hydrating face mask.

Ripe avocado – 1

Honey – 1 tsp.

Olive oil – 1 tsp.

  1.  Scoop the ripe avocado pulp out and mash it well.
  2. Mix this mashed avocado pulp with honey and olive oil.
  3. Apply this avocado face mask and allow it to dry.
  4. Rinse it off with warm water.

You can use this face mask few times a week to get the necessary hydration.

Alternatively, Avocado oil also has highly moisturizing properties. It helps dull, dehydrated skin during winters to get moisturized. You can gently massage face and body with this oil before taking a bath.

Carrots

Carrots are loads with vitamin A, C and other antioxidants that keep skin healthy and glowing even during harsh winter weather. It also solves the problem of uneven skin tone, signs of aging and pigmentation. Moreover, it contains beta-carotene, lycopene, and carotenoids, which protect the skin against UV damage. The rich potassium content helps solve dry skin problems.

Drink a glass of carrot juice every day to keep the skin hydrated from within.

You can also try moisturizing face masks with carrots.

Carrots – 3

Honey – 1 tsp.

Milk cream – 1 tsp.

Olive oil – few drops

  1. Clean and cut the carrots to blend them well to form a puree.
  2. Mix 2 tsp. of this carrots puree with 1 tsp. each of honey and milk cream.
  3. Add few drops of olive oil.
  4. Apply this mixture on your clean face.
  5. Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse it off will cold water.

Use this face mask a few times a week to enjoy soft, glowing and moisturized skin.

Almonds

Almonds contain various antioxidants for the benefit of skin care. The dryness caused by cold winters can be combated with the presence of vitamin E in almonds.

You can also use almonds for making a homemade face scrub.

Almonds – a handful

Yoghurt or milk – 1 tbsp.

  1. Soak the almonds in water overnight.
  2. After that, peels them and grind. Let it be little coarse as we are using it as a scrub.
  3. Add some yoghurt or milk to the almond paste.
  4. Gently scrub the skin with this paste.

Use this almond scrub 1 or 2 times a week.

Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate helps a lot with winter care. When it contains 70 percent cocoa content, it is considered good for skin care. Dark chocolates are rich in flavonols, which help the skin during harsh weather conditions. Flavonols are actually antioxidants that protect the skin from free radicals and UV damage. It also helps keep skin soft and supple by increasing the blood flow to skin cells.

You can consume 2 to 3 ounces of dark chocolate per week to get the benefits.

To add some glow to dull skin, here is a simple dark chocolate face mask.

Dark chocolate – 1 bar

Gram flour – 1 tsp.

Milk cream – 1 tsp.

Lemon juice – as required.

  1. First, melt the dark chocolate bar in a boiler.
  2. Mix gram flour and milk cream to it.
  3. Add little lemon juice to get a paste consistency.
  4. Apply this mask all over your face.
  5. Leave it for 15-20 minutes.
  6. Rinse it off with warm water.

You can try this face mask once a week.
