Home Remedies for Irregular Menstruation

The menstrual cycle is a part of every women’s life. However, there are so many problems accompanied with it – some common and some rare. Whatever, problems with menstruation can be excruciating. One of the common problems with menstrual cycle is irregular menstruation. It is quite commonly faced by a lot of girls. In medical terms, irregular periods are termed as oligomenorrhea. A normal woman has 11 to 13 average periods per year, but anything fewer than 6 or 7 cycles is treated as irregular. There could be a wide range of factors affecting the menstrual cycle. Some of which are medications, vigorous exercise, weight gain or weight loss, miscarriage, pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, excessive alcohol or drug use, smoking etc.,. Apart from that, increased stress, poor nutrition, hyperthyroidism, hormonal imbalances, menopause, and several uterus problems can also cause irregular menstruation. Instead of going for medications, you can first try out some simple home remedies that help get rid of irregular periods.

Fennel seeds

Fennel seeds also a great herb for regulating irregular periods. The antispasmodic properties in fennel seeds help to re-balance the female sex hormones and also help to remove cramping associated with premenstrual syndrome.

Take two tablespoons of fennel seeds in a bowl and then add a glass of water into it. Allow it to soak overnight. Next day morning strain the solution and drink the water alone. Repeat this daily for about a month.

Sesame seeds

Sesame seeds are helpful to regulate menstrual cycle. The lignans in sesame helps to balance your hormones and also the essential fatty acids in which helps to promote optimal hormone production.

Sesame seeds – a handful

Jaggery – 1 tsp

Take some sesame seeds and dry roast it. Now add some jaggery into it and grind them well until you get a fine powder. Now take one teaspoon of this powder daily on your empty stomach in the luteal phase. Do not try this remedy during your periods.

Coriander seeds

Coriander seeds – 1 tsp

Water – 2 cups

Take some coriander seeds and put it into boiling water. Allow in to boil until the water reduces to one cup. Strain the water using strainer. Now drink this coriander seed water for few days daily prior to your period. Repeat this process for a few months. Instead of this you can also drink coriander juice for a few months.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is an effective remedy to reduce menstrual cramps and also helps to regulate menstrual cycles. It helps to keep our body warm.

Take 1 ½ tsp of cinnamon powder and simply add it into a glass of hot milk and drink it daily. Repeat this process for several weeks.

Try to add cinnamon sticks to your regular diet or you can sprinkle cinnamon powder on your foods.

Instead of it you can simply chew some cinnamon sticks regularly.

Drink cinnamon tea in a regular basis which also helps to regulate insulin levels and is suspected to have an effect on menstrual regularity.

 Turmeric

Turmeric is considered as a warming herb, it helps to regulate menstruation cycle and relieve menstrual pain. The anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties in turmeric help to simulate menstrual flow and also help to balance hormones in your body.

Take 1 ¼ tsp of turmeric powder and add it into a milk. Now add some honey or jaggery into it and mix well. Drink this turmeric milk daily for several weeks. This will helps to regulate your menstrual cycle.

Ginger

Ginger is also an effective remedy for irregular periods and menstrual pain. It helps to dealing with delayed and scanty periods.

Grated ginger – 1 ½ tsp

Water – 1 cup

Take freshly grated ginger and put it into a cup of boiling water. Allow it to boil for about six to seven minutes. Now add little sugar. Strain the water and drink it three times a day after meals. Repeat this process for about one month or more.

Carrot juice

Carrot is a simple home remedy to regulate menstrual cycle.

You can eat raw carrots or carrot juice regularly for three months. Alternatively you can also combine carrot juices with other vegetable juices. This will help to boost proper hormone functioning.

Papaya

Papaya is a well known remedy to regulate menstrual flow and also it helps to contract muscle fibers in the uterus. Especially, green papaya works as a potent emmenagogue.

Drink unripe papaya juice regularly for a few months. But do not drink this juice during your periods.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera helps to regulate your hormones and so it helps to treat irregular periods.

Take some fresh aloe vera gel from an aloe vera plant and then mix one teaspoon of honey into it. Now drink this mixture daily before having your breakfast. Repeat this process for about three months. Do not try this during your periods.
